Winter Glamping at Nalu Retreat: Important Information

Thank you for choosing Nalu Retreat for your winter glamping experience.

We are excited to host you and hope you enjoy the tranquility and beauty of our forested setting. However, we want to share some important information about winter stays in our domes to help you prepare for your visit.

Our domes are a unique and luxurious way to connect with nature, but it’s important to remember that they are still, at their core, a tent-like structure in the middle of the woods. While we’ve taken extensive measures to make them as warm and comfortable as possible, they remain exposed to the elements in ways traditional accommodations are not.

We monitor the weather constantly and we will proactively reschedule your stay to prioritize your safety and comfort in severe weather conditions. That being said, if you are staying with us and an unexpected cold front occurs, we recommend bundling up and wearing warmer clothing, such as thermal layers, socks, and sweaters, especially at night.

We’ve taken every precaution to ensure the domes retain heat as effectively as possible, including:

Double-insulated walls and spray-foamed floors for enhanced insulation.

Multiple heat sources, including heaters, a propane fireplace, a heat pump, and floor heaters.

Close the curtains and skylight at night to minimize heat loss.

However, during unexpected cold fronts, it can still be challenging to maintain consistent warmth throughout the night.

Tips for Winter Stays

To stay warm and cozy during your visit, we recommend:

Wearing warm clothing, such as thermal layers, socks, and sweaters.

Utilizing all heating sources, including the propane fireplace, heat pump, and heaters.

Closing the curtains and skylight at night to retain heat and keep the dome as warm as possible.

We appreciate your understanding of the unique charm and challenges of winter glamping. While our domes provide a cozy retreat in nature, they are still an immersive experience in the heart of the woods.

To ensure you stay warm and comfortable during your stay, here are some more tips to help maximize the heat in the domes:

  1. Close the Curtains and Skylight at Night: Closing the curtains and the skylight upstairs will help retain heat inside the dome and minimize heat loss, especially during cooler evenings.

  2. Heating Options:

The bathroom and living room are equipped with heaters that are set to their highest settings during the winter to provide consistent warmth.

The heat pump on the wall automatically cycles to maintain a warm temperature. For better circulation, set the fan speed to high.

Use the propane fireplace for an added cozy touch. To ensure maximum warmth, set the fan on the fireplace to high.

There’s also a floor heater in front of the bed, which can be set to high for extra warmth at night.

  3. Understanding the Dome’s Design: While we’ve taken every precaution to ensure the domes are as warm as possible—such as spray-foaming the floors and double-insulating the walls—there are still challenges with maintaining heat during colder evenings, especially when a cold front comes through. Heat can escape through the large panoramic window, as there’s no way to insulate it without compromising the stunning views.

  4. Weather Changes: During cold fronts, it can be especially challenging to maintain consistent warmth throughout the night due to the dome’s unique design and large windows. We closely monitor temperatures to mitigate this, but we encourage you to take advantage of the heating options available to stay as cozy as possible.

By following these tips, you’ll stay warm and enjoy your stay even during the chilliest nights. If you have any questions or concerns about adjusting the heat, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help!
